Improbable Island Message of the Day (MoTD)

New items, new lore, new combat mechanics, new crates, death

Hey, everyone! There are some new items in the game today, and some new lore to go with them.

The Hawton Meters allow you to see how random combat's going to be, and influence the breadth of that randomness! Combat will now be, on the whole, less random than it used to be, except when the Island is under a wave of high Chance energy (which your meter will tell you about). You can also use the meter to change the randomness of combat.

If you're up against something that's bound to knock you out and you need a little luck to win the fight, you can observe (and destroy) the meter to make things more random. Conversely, if you're in a fight that you should win as long as your opponent doesn't get any lucky hits in, you can open the observation shutter on an attached Manufactured Artifact to suck all the randomness out of an encounter.

To help get these new items into circulation, we're doing Double Crates for a little while. You already know that Supply Crates are dropped randomly onto the map whenever someone makes a donation to support the game - well, for the next two weeks we're gonna double the number of crates dropped, taking it up to twenty crates for every dollar donated. Altruism-class items from the Hunter's Lodge will drop double the usual number of crates too!

And now, some sad news - my maternal grandfather passed away this afternoon. We'd like to be able to attend his funeral in the UK, so now would be an excellent time to donate. I really appreciate anything you can spare.

If you're interested in the lore of the Hawton meters, you can read it here - I had a lot of fun writing it, and I hope you enjoy it.

Have fun!
