Pronoun-aware text replacements

Here's a list of pronoun-aware codes you can use in Places programming and decorating, to output appropriate words when talking about the player character.

They're colourized here to better illustrate how they work; when you use them, colour stuff however you like using the standard Island grave codes, but don't put colour codes between the square brackets.

These codes evaluate the pronoun of the viewing character. For example, when a character with "She" pronouns views the code [ref], [ref] turns into herself.

Work on this list started in mid 2023. It's not complete, but you can help expand it using the Report a Problem link or by emailing admin@improbableisland.com with your suggestions.

These square-bracket codes are good for short little replacements, but no good if you need to completely rewrite whole sentences or paragraphs. In that case, we have a Pronoun Evaluation Contrivance you can use instead, by writing each pronoun-sensitive scene on a different Page and using the Show Page Contraption based on its output.
