It seems that at times the chat is pushing people back to non-chat status (no chat bar, "join the chinwagging" button up) and then kicking them out completely when they try to rejoin. It happened to me once, logged me out, I logged back in and it was okay. Kitsune had it happen, logged back in, had it happen again two more times, then gave up trying to log back in. We were both in Byte's place, at the time, so I dunno if it's limited to that place, places in general or all chats. I first noticed it at about 5:25 pm EST on Tuesday July 1st, Kit's final one was at about 5:50 pm EST on the same day. I haven't noticed it again yet, but I don't know what is triggering it.
