This appears correctly on back pages of chat, or when Auto-Update is disabled. It is replaced by the browser's 'unrecognizable character' symbol when it's on the latest page and Auto-Update is enabled.

There's a related petition about curly quotes, but I think the symbol for UK currency really ought to be usable on a British game!
