Petition ID 1064: Return of #334: you can post a blank message
Submitted Fri, 21 Sep 12 23:00:43 +0000

It is again possible to post an empty emote into chat.

If you select the chat box and press enter when there's nothing in it, it won't let you do it. But, if you enter a : to emote rather than speak, it will let you press enter on only that. So you can post a line into chat which is just your name and nothing else.

Suggested solution: make it so that you cannot post with fewer than two characters in your text string. This would let somebody do, for example:

Buddleia is writing a really long and involved post here. It's carefully planned out to break over two or more lines. "Maybe she says something, even." But, you know, maybe it'd be nice if there was an even cooler way to do this, thinks
Buddleia.

And it would let somebody do, without using an emote (so that the game defaults to "says"):

Charactername says "Quick! What's the first letter of the alphabet?"
Buddleia says "A."

This would cruelly force everyone to use punctuation for their one-letter posts, or to have two-letter words as the shortest-possible post! This is obviously a terrible tragic hardship. But it would stop people from posting blank messages.

Where: chat boxes.

When: noticed today. The old bug was fixed in December.
