Donations? What?

That's right! You can donate to keep Improbable Island running, as much or as little as you like, and get rewarded for it too. To check the current rewards you can get, log in and go to the Hunter's Lodge, where the bouncer will happily explain to you the concept of Donation Points, the currency in Improbable Island that has the closest relationship to currency in real life.

OK, but there are two "Donate" buttons. Which one do I use? Who should I give money to?

Well, that all depends. Improbable Island, as you probably already know, is based on a game engine called Legend of the Green Dragon. Clicking the "Author" button will take you to the donation form for the original authors of Legend of the Green Dragon. Clicking the "Site Admin" button will take you to the donations page for the creators and administrators of Improbable Island.

But that doesn't make it any easier to decide at all!

Yes, we know. On the one hand, Improbable Island would not exist at all without the work done by the Legend of the Green Dragon team, and they deserve more than just respect for that - they deserve your money. On the other hand, converting the game and translating the text from Dungeons & Dragons-esque fantasy roleplay into silly postapocalyptic Reality TV nonsense took about a year, and the job isn't done yet. The game requires daily attention to keep undesirables out, advertising and promotion to recruit plenty of newbies to tease, and a hell of a lot of tender loving care to foster a decent community.

Put simply, without LotGD there would be no Improbable Island, and without the Improbable Island staff, there would be no Improbable Island. If you want to encourage new features and new players to Improbable Island (and get some unfair advantages to boot), then by all means donate to us - but to be honest, it'd be nice if you were to hit both of those buttons and make a double donation.

How much should I donate?

As much or as little as you like, in whole US Dollar increments. For the reference of those of us in England (which includes the game staff), one US Dollar is worth just over 50p right now.

Donating more money to Improbable Island (via the "Site Admin" donation button) will get you more Unfair Advantages in the Hunter's Lodge. Donating more to LotGD's original creators (via the "Author" donation button) will give you a warm glowy feeling.

Put it this way - if you met Admin CavemanJoe in a pub, you'd probably buy him a pint, and a pint costs two quid (rounded down). That'd be plenty and generous. It's be nice if you could buy the LotGD creators a pint too.

What will my donations be used for?

Admin CavemanJoe says:
"I'm self-employed, so I have plenty of time to work on projects like this. Improbable Island is mostly a labour of love, but if you guys throw enough money at me to cover my beer money, then of course it'll get more attention and a slightly bigger chunk of my day, which is already rationed out pretty carefully between a variety of projects and businesses. Your donation will go towards hosting bills, advertising the game, and persuading me to spend more time writing and coding to make it even better."
In other words, Admin CavemanJoe will spend your donation money on booze and kebabs.

Are there other ways I can help the Island?

Yes - if you would prefer, you can advertise on the Island via Project Wonderful. Click the little links below each advertisement for more information. This will help us out with money, and help you out by... well, advertising your website.

Referring friends to the game will also give you Donator Points. Check the Hunter's Lodge in any village for more details.

OK, I've got it. Take me home.

Sure thing. Click here to go back to the home page.
